What Is a Hot Rolled (HR) Slit Coil?
A Hot Rolled Slit Coil is a narrow steel strip produced by longitudinally cutting a wider hot rolled master coil into multiple specified widths using a coil slitting line.
The resulting steel strips are supplied in coil form and can be used directly as feedstock for roll forming, tube and pipe manufacturing, stamping, fabrication, structural components and other continuous manufacturing processes.

Surface Finish Options
HR Black / As-Rolled
Hot rolled steel supplied with the characteristic mill scale surface generated during the hot rolling process.
Pickled and Oiled (HRPO)
HRPO material is chemically descaled to remove surface oxides and may be oiled for temporary corrosion protection and improved downstream processing.
Surface requirements should be confirmed at the quotation stage because finish, oiling and descaling requirements vary by application.
HR Slit Coil Technical Details
Thickness and Gauge Control
The required thickness is selected according to the application, forming requirements and specified steel grade. Incoming material and processed strips can be checked using suitable dimensional inspection equipment.
Width Control
Slitting divides a master coil into narrower strips. Required slit widths should be specified clearly in the purchase order along with acceptable dimensional tolerances.
Slitting Edge Quality
Slitting parameters influence edge condition, burr formation, strip shape and dimensional consistency. Tooling and setup should therefore be selected according to thickness, grade and required finished width.
Coil Shape and Handling
